Different approaches

Yesterday I was reading some articles from a website called Dust Buddha. This page is dedicated to exposing the Dhamma as found in the suttas, and continuously to the author, Michael Olds, exhorts us to seek truth in the suttas, compare, not to relax, work, work, work!

However, their approach is different from what I've taken. He recommends reading us the suttas, again and again, until we get a complete picture of what the Buddha meant, while we meditate and meditate and meditate until we understand how to translate what he said the Buddha in our experience. In fact, proposes new translations for key terms of teaching, I are much closer than usual.

In my case, I prefer to stay with two or three basics of education (Four Noble Truths, Dependent Origination y. .. I think it already), and from there to practice, experiencing for myself what works and what does not, regardless of what he said Gotama. Question of approaches.

Now if any of you doubt between my approach and that of Mr. Olds, I recommend reading the suttas without delay: they are the best guide that you will find, and the board of Olds, meditate and compares until all is embedded in your mind, is one of the best things you can do.

Shy

Due to popular demand
, because I've been meaning to write this in an orderly manner, plays a post with instructions for meditation, for anyone interested. Going to be long, so prepare yourself a cup of tea.

What is meditation
This question is difficult to answer. Or maybe just me it seems to me. Meditation is so much that is not easy to explain in words. People often have the impression that it is "as a relaxation technique or something" and, of course, so is. But it is much more. Meditation is the tool that exercises our minds and shaped to deal with life differently. Gotama say that all our problems were due to a fundamental error of perception, which caused us to have unrealistic desires (I hope I die, I hope I do not find with any known in the bus, hopefully not ever get sick ...).

As one does not get rid of these desires of the overnight, Gotama "created" a training system that he called the Noble Eightfold Path, which is the continuous cultivation of the mind - "bhavana" - in general sense (to be more generous, trying to do good things to try hard not to get carried away by feelings chung, etc.), and in which meditation - "samadhi" - plays a fundamental role, being more intensive training, which, through the development of attention and concentration, we will gradually discover the secrets of the mind and understanding how problems arise and we finally be able to get rid of them.

Although meditation is part of a very objective way with a "high" (liberation from suffering), this does not mean to limit it. The practice of meditation, if done well, is always positive, and you do not believe nothing that an Indian said 2500 years ago and pray to the Dalai Lama or haircuts or eat potatoes to practice. It is there for everyone who wants to try him keep an eye.

Bids
The first step in starting to meditate is a good posture. One can meditate sitting, standing, lying and walking. Of these four positions, the most common are sitting meditation and walking meditation.

standing meditation is very convenient because most people can not stand still for long periods of time. However, on the website of my friend Hugo you have good indications on how to try the standing meditation.

lying
Meditation is a roll for you sleepy and focus worse. I almost always sleep or just in a drowsy state in which I do not hear anything. It can mean sitting hurts you, or when you go to sleep.

Walking meditation has many variations, but basically it is usually follow a path previously marked line (which you see clearly the start and end) and travel from one place to another continuously, stopping a few seconds at a time you change direction.

be not to fall is very heavy), it is essential that both knees are resting on the ground, making a tripod with the ass. As we are not flat (and not all are teachers of yoga), it is difficult to achieve without some degree of elevation **. For this we use pads (the zafus very nice, they are tough and are resistant form), but also valid normal cushions, coats folded over themselves, rolled towels, pillows, bent, etc.. Culaquier thing that allows us to lift and relax your legs and support your knees on the ground without getting hurt much serve.

I advise you, it becomes very comfortable over time), you can use chairs (both feet flat and your back straight, preferably without relying on the support, or a cushion to keep it straight and prevent you fall back and fall asleep) or the benches to sit in seiza (which is a very common Japanese position there.)

Once seated, either way, the following is overburdening the back. Imagine leaving a string of your neck and pulls you up, as if you were a puppet. Stretch and everything you can, then relax (but keep your back straight!). There is only to maintain a slight tension on the back for not falling, but the rest of the back and neck should be relaxed.

usually also recommend lowering the chin slightly to stretch the neck either, but I always back me up to relax your back and keep it forced me not usually help.

hands do them as you see fit. It is important, yes, they are relaxed, like the rest of the body. But beyond that, any alternative is valid: in the lap, together, apart, face down on his knees, backs of knees, etc..

eyes can close them or leave them slightly ajar, as pleases you. Like everything else, the idea is to relax the eyelids and also the tension around the eyeballs: some will be half-closed eyes, others are completely closed. You can also open them and notice a particular point in the ground about 2 meters away, but I do not like much (except for a while).

To assure that all details of the position are well caught, it is worth to spend the first few minutes of sitting stability check, back, neck and head are place, and the whole body, except the parties responsible for maintaining posture (especially the lower back), is relaxed. For example, if you notice blood in the legs, and relajadlas centraos them. If the voltage is because the support is not correct, move until it is. And so on, id doing a sweep through the body until everything is in order. This helps relax the mind and meditation is a nice start, and also can be a meditation practice in itself, if aplicáis what I'll explain later.

At first, the position will be a little awkward, especially if you go to meditate 30 minutes followed, but not deseperéis eventually becomes easier. Seek cushion height combinations, bending the legs, etc. While some discomfort is good to see some things, is not embarrassed or anything, so do not become the macho if not needed (this also can be applied to me, lol).

What do
The second question I'm most people do, after "Tell me what is above that of Buddhism, I am very interested (and who has a movie , you know) is "And you, what do you do when you meditate?". Once explained the basics of posture, I can say what I always answer:

I attend inspiration. I attend expiration. If there is a thought, I look at it and "let go." If I get distracted, come back to do before.

And so on. But going by parts: I told you that meditation is to develop attention and concentration so that, little by little, we can go free of our suffering. How is this done? The first step is to take an object of meditation, on which to focus our attention. Objects of meditation are many and varied, but most usually common breathing and body (and the "mind", but that's for later, I think).

If we take the breath as an object, it is to meet every breath and every breath. For that, we focus on a sense that tells us that breathing is occurring, as the air in and out of the nose, chest / belly moving, or the general feeling of body breathing. Observe how the breath changes over time, how it changes your perception of it, what happens when we focus on it, etc.

If we take the body as object, we can sweep I've mentioned before (go mentally reviewing all parts of the body, noting how to sit, relax ...) or just feel the whole body, and observe what happens to him: if there is pain or pleasure, come from, how those feelings, etc.

is important to remember that just have to see what appears, and not judge, reject it, think about it ... just watch and see what happens.

distraéis
If you (and believe me, you will do), simply return to your object of meditation. Remember that now is not the time to solve the problems of the world, or to remember what you said Andrea, you're so angry yesterday, or think about what you do for dinner. Do not culpéis, no returns and I give him frustréis because you can not sustain attention. Happens even in the best families. Nor frustréis you if you can not judge you stop, I've been meditating 4 years and sometimes, when I was confused, I say, "Shit!" (But only sometimes, haha).

simple case of lack of attention, you can "anchor" to the mind using a mantra (such as "bud-dho" mentally say "bud" to inspire and "dho" to breathe) or counting breaths (1 when you breathe, you breathe 1, 2 when you breathe ... and to 6, and again from 1). You can also change the subject meditation.

If the distraction is very strong (a strong pain or a recurring thought), and are not able to release it, you can take it as an object, and just watch (do not involucréis, do not give him round to thinking it is, just see what happens). You learn a lot of pain doing this, but do not be masochistic and leave it if it's a serious pain. Another thing you can do with the pain is to focus attention elsewhere in the body that is more enjoyable. If not, you can go away for a walk or something.

With time and practice, your mind will calm down. And I stress, eventually and practice. The first thing one learns to meditate is patience. Patience. It take time to see results, but do not be discouraged, as it says Javier, my karate teacher, " This is like love. Over the years, and children, comes ."

As your ability to return to the meditation object gets better, you will realize that you are more able to "let go" obsessive thoughts and painful feelings. In doing so, you'll see what they naturally do when not constantly nourished. This will give you an idea of \u200b\u200bhow the mind works, and give them new ideas and tools for investigation. In addition, more concentrated, you can explore the subtleties of your object of meditation and deeper into details before you saw not. The emergence of perceptions, their training, our reaction to feelings, etc.

Tips
Patience. Patience. Patience. A lot of patience, really. Remember what they said the AC-DC " It's a long way to the top, if you want to rock n roll !" ("It's a long way to the top, if you want rock n roll.") Fortunately or unfortunately we are, there is no fast track for this: many of our problems stem in dynamics and mental patterns that are deeply entrenched, so get rid of them takes time. However, I think is the best method to do so.

meditate much
If you decide to start meditating continuously (which would be fine), you have to think about the frequency and duration of the sit / walk. In terms of frequency, much will depend on how busy is your life (not the same being a high school student to have three kids and a job from 8 to 8) and spend long as you want. That depends on you. With meditation, the more the better, but that does not mean that we neglect our romantic relationships, our work or our life in general.

Regarding duration, I recommend that you begin with about 30 minutes per sitting. If you want to put him comfortable and see more cane, later. But forzéis the machine. Also your time availability greatly influences: there will be days that you can meditate 40 minutes, others will not have either for 10 minutes ... we must be flexible. However, in my experience, are qualitatively sitting longer than the shortest, I spent a long time meditating 30 minutes, and when I passed 60, my concentration increased significantly, now I try to meditate more than 60 minutes from time to time, and also notice the difference. Simply, the mind takes time focusing, so sitting longer guarantees more concentration. But even if you can not spend frustréis 60 minutes to sit down. Sometimes we are too busy, and there are days that I can not meditate. The monks often say that it is better to sit 10 minutes daily, 60 once a week, so be it in mind when you have a day very busy and only you can sit 5 minutes.

Anyway, it does recommend that if you want that meditation has a greater effect lasting in your life that just a few minutes of relaxation, practiquéis with some frequency. If not daily, every two or three days. Less, progress is barely noticed.

Another important thing is that, in addition to sitting, mantengáis observation that spirit throughout the day: how reaccionáis to what happens in your life, how it changes your perception of the world, etc. This is pretty complicated, but it is as important as sitting meditation (and you used when you are bundled and can not spend time sitting meditation).

Finally
I wrote this post telling you what I think is best for someone who wants to start meditating. I know many of you ask me you are not "Buddhist" and you will not roll-sectarian religious espiritualoide-comecerebros. However, as I learned to meditate in this tradition, all I can teach you meditation is taught by the Buddha. So sorry if I've written here does not correspond to your expectations or you think too much, "Buddhist" for your taste, but I do not know to approach it differently. Take what you like and discard the rest.

addition, much of what's here writing comes from my humble experience of taking only 4 years meditating. If you want to dig deeper or not you Fiais lot from me (which would include), I leave some interesting links the end of this post. If you have any questions, do not you think twice and ask me.

If you want other opinions, a good site I visit often Theravada Forest, where kindly answer your questions on any topic. Also there you will find many articles related to meditation, which probably explains all this much better than me.

Thai Monks are a variant of this position and put one leg over the other. Thus, stability is given by the twin lying on the ground, and do not require any lifting. I also find this position unstable after a while, but I've seen While many people meditate well, so it should be a matter of taste.

How to Meditate

I've always been very shy. Already, people know me now and do not believe, but true. And the other small "outdated" and I know how it is. With training and willpower, I have become more sociable, but I feel uncomfortable when I am alone with teachers with whom I have a relationship half-confidence, but those who do not know what to talk about (what is right, talk, not talk? etc). Also known to shun the bus, I do not want to face the awkward conversations that I know will take place (When I take courage and dare to talk to them - that is, not to pretend that I have not seen - the talks are 99% uncomfortable). I guess with more training that discomfort is going well, but I have not gotten that yet.

funny thing is that this shyness associated with a kind of fear that hurt me. As if these situations were conducive for me to look ridiculous and people are laughing at me, or them to think I'm stupid, or whatever. And it is clear that fear is there. If not, tell me why yesterday my heart raced when I got to return keys to a nearby garage ... And yes, the conversation was awkward.

But not only is that. Today, meditating, I realized that there is also something more basic: I do not like discomfort. And I say: "Wow, I know I not meditate." Ya. But not me. The fact is that the rejection of the discomfort is one of the cases that the Buddha explicitly as "suffering" in his first speech:

"This, O monks, is the Noble Truth of Suffering. "Birth is suffering, aging is suffering, sickness is suffering, death is suffering, associated with undesirable is suffering, it is desirable to separate from suffering, not getting what you want is suffering. In short, the five aggregates of adhesion are suffering. "

Ya, I know what you will say. That Buddhism is part of some very obvious, or what you were thinking? Well, the trouble is that the discomfort (and undesirable things in general) are always going to be here, and you can not escape from them as much as we wish. So I must learn to live with it. I I will be contant how I go. With regard to these things, the Chinese master Hongzhi said

" Move freely everywhere, without following the conditions, without falling in the rankings. Confronting everything, drop it and get stability. Stay with it like this, stay with it as it "*

* Hongzhi code language spoken in Ch'an. To understand one must meditate. Or know Chinese. Or both.

Whats A Full Haed Of Highlights

Today, while I pondered, I realized that there was a kind of noise inside of my body or my mind or whatever, a noise that seemed to come from Nigun part. It sounded like when you open a refrigerator and you hear the sound it makes when running. Maybe it was just blood through arteries and veins.

I read that some meditators use what they call "the sound of silence" as an object of meditation. And maybe it was. But it was no big deal, and I soon got tired of it. So, it really is like listening to the refrigerator.

So I'm back to breathing, and have continued with business as usual.

Nicotine Lozenges Throat Cancer

The sound of silence is not going to put rose-colored dream

Today I was waiting for the bus, thinking how my life would enlighten me once. Yes, I suppose most people do not think these things, but my mind is. I imagine myself as a haven of peace and quiet, living a quiet life in the countryside or the mountains, like the old ascetics Chinese ... (ya, ya know.)

Anyway, as I thought this, I realized that although a part of me want much, do not think I will make the mountain hermitage. Probably will finish teaching at the university or research scientist, I a family and all that, and live in the middle of the marketplace. My life is not going to come back more beautiful than it already is. I'm not going to meditate in the light of the moon while the birds perch fearlessly on my shoulders. It will not sound smooth chill-out music as I look to infinity. I will not say cool phrases such scholars say as I sip my tea in the woods. My life will not be a movie, and I'm not going to be Yoda or Miyagi or some of them. I'll have to get up in the morning to catch the bus, pick up my kids from school, live bad times at work and sometimes I will go short pasta. Very mundane everything. And that's it, right? But unconsciously, until today was focusing practice as if my life were to be more mystical, cool in the future. And that is a mistake.

Now I can enjoy 10 minutes more than I have to wait for the bus because there was a jam in the M-30, or to run away from home because I get to class, or else I touch it. Because that's what I'm gonna live. And actually, it's pretty cool. * Not as romantic, but what can we do.

* Anyway, I think things look much more romantic from the outside, and that a Chinese ascetic life will seem as mundane as for me to take the bus ...

Welded Wire Leaners Where To Buy

say that while you sleep, you have to keep meditating. If you sleep, try meditating walk or open his eyes, or stop breathing for a while to wake up.

When I sleep, none of that works. I still sleep walking. I opened my eyes to sleep. Espabila me stop breathing for a few seconds, but the dream comes back, and I'm like at first.

So, when I have sleep, I sleep. Get up pad, brush your teeth, going to bed ... I do not have to be "not meditate." It seems easy to distinguish when we are meditating and when we are not meditating, but if we practice forever, so we never stop to meditate. Sitting is just another way to meditate.

is why, even if you sleep, you have to keep meditating.

Vitamin B may help control brain atrophy

taking high doses of vitamin B tablets a day can halve the rate at which shrinks the brain in older people with memory problems and slow the progress of the problem to dementia, data showed a British study.

Scientists at the Oxford University clinical trial indicated that their two-year project is the largest to date on the effect of B vitamins in the "mild cognitive impairment, an important factor risk of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Experts who commented on the results of the study described as important and urged that more frequently than large-scale trials to see if you can confirm the safety and effectiveness of B vitamins in the prevention of neurodegenerative conditions.

"This is a very dramatic result (...) It is much more than we could have predicted," said David Smith, the department of pharmacology at Oxford, who co-directed the study.

"We hope this simple and safe treatment delayed the development of Alzheimer's in many people suffering mild memory problems, "added Smith.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) affects about 16 percent of people older than 70 years and is characterized by mild problems with memory loss , language and other mental functions.

Although MCI does not usually interfere with daily life, about 50 percent of people diagnosed advancing Alzheimer's disease, more severe, in some five years.

Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative condition that affects 26 million people around the world and for which there are few treatments and no cure option at the moment.

Smith and his colleagues studied 168 volunteers with MCI who received a pill with high doses of folic acid, vitamin B6 and B12 or a placebo pill.

These B vitamins are known to control blood levels of an amino acid called homocysteine. Huge amounts of homocysteine \u200b\u200bin the blood is linked with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

Helga Refsum, who also worked on the study, said that were handled extremely high doses of vitamins. "This is a pharmacological intervention, no vitamins," he said.

pills called "TrioBe Plus", contained about 300 times the recommended daily intake of B12, four times the recommended levels of folic acid per day and 15 times the scheduled amount as the daily limit for Vitamin B6.

The results, published in the journal PLoS One, showed that on average, the brains of those who took vitamins shrank at a rate of 0.76 percent annually, while among those taking placebo had an average of brain shrinkage was 1.08 percent .

People with higher homocysteine \u200b\u200blevels at baseline benefited most from treatment because their brains were cut in half the rate than did those who took the fake pills.

Emilio, I want you out and away

How not to be upset when our governor says he will produce "Asquith" homosexuality? How not be outraged when the Government of Jalisco promotes initiatives that only promote hatred and intolerance? Enough! Homosexuality is not a disease or an acquired taste, we should not fight against them or "tolerate" one does not "tolerate" the natural, accept it. The real disease is homophobia, you're not born hating, they teach and that is precisely what the government of Emilio Gonzalez Marquez intends to do with us, teach us to hate our loved ones. At this

repeat: enough is enough. Just give us the finger gruel, for safeguarding the interests of a few, to rule for yourself who fuck fuck. Enough, I say, enough to bridge that divide and secrete sufficient cheesy soap opera promoting roles archaic enough mother insults and personal vendettas. Emilio No more, no more abuse and violations, no more baseball stadiums in the middle of nowhere because your eggs swell expensive tequila, no more paranoid statements or overlaps into the church.

citizens, if we remember, we are sick. We walked hunched, deformed hands and green of courage we have loose clothing, a product of disgust and vomiting caused see, hear, read you. Emilio, we have reached a point where it's you or us and we opted for the latter. Emilio, we love you away.

Long Weave With Chines Bangs

Buddhadasa, chickens and mosquitoes

Although it has been over a month, I will tell you a little more of retirement.

In general, it was good: the first day I grate a little and gave me the world over (thoughts like "I do not want to continue meditating," I do not know why people are upset, "" Buddhism is useless "), but I spent the next day. The rest of the retreat was normal, with knee pain and the feeling of doing nothing useful in the sitting (that happened to me on all withdrawals from the second day), but, unlike other times, this time I did not very long day, neither my interminable stay in retirement. I was aware I was there a week, and I seemed to be an eternity. I really do not know if this is good or bad.

One last anecdote about the question and answer session, someone asked Ajahn Abhinando what to do when mosquitoes stinging our wish and we do not want to bite us. Do you keep the first commandment (refraining from killing)? Abhinando said that the provisions are unclear, but it should not take them as if they were commandments are frameworks in which to frame our practice, a kind of moral guide to progress without problems on the road. However, the world is not black and white, but there are many gray, and that is where we must decide what to do. Abhinando recommended us to be more creative and find other solutions to the problem that does not involve jumping the precepts, but sometimes there is no way out other than breaking them. And then we have to, and accept the possible consequences of that decision.

For example, we are told of Ajahn Buddhadasa, the already have spoken before . Buddhadasa is considered one of the most important Thai teachers of the twentieth century, and his writings, which you can read on the Internet, are very direct and intense. An interesting type. Well, Buddhadasa used to be always close to a group of roosters (if you do not believe me, look photo). The cocks were so used to it (and he to the roosters) that rose into his arms and his head quietly. If, while a rooster walking in his arm, sat a mosquito on the other, Buddhadasa just had to move the hand to bring the rooster, the poor insect, and thus solve the problem. Abhinando said we could put Buddhadasa purists and say that the rooster was helping to kill the mosquito but the essence is that we should not "get Taliban", as my girlfriend.

order to live, others must die. This is a reality and look at it look. The first provision gives us a framework where to move and avoid killing's sake, but it is clear that everything we do involves the death of a live (and if not think of the parasites, infections, etc). The best we can do is be aware of this and accept it. Get silly to take the precepts to the letter just causes us more suffering ...

Indeed, Jerome told me he saw Buddhadasa kill mosquitoes to swat, and it did not seem too concerned about hiding. It seems that the man had clear!

M Iak Milosc Streszczenia

"KISS? And who are those?

When Raul invited me to the KISS concert I was quite surprised. You see, in my head all the fans of this group are entering the 40's hair but managed quinceañera people wear leather jackets, ripped jeans and black shirts, the girlfriends of these leather wear tight pants, chains, piercings language and almost always dye their hair red. Raul and I do not fit at all with this description but I never say no to a gig even if it is in the VFG.

When I got there I was surprised to see people of all ages and styles, no lack of fans with painted faces who graciously posed with curious like me for a photo. There was even a girl no older than 8 years old that looked like a mini-me Gene was she who taught me the proper positioning of your fingers to do the "fist rock."

Around 9:40 the show started, dropped the curtain that shrouded the stage and down a platform Paul, Gene and Tommy while Eric Singer was raised with battery on a platform apart. The group began their set with Modern Day Delilah. Gene platform boots with dragon-shaped not let us out the language as he moves "sexy" with her hip, I could not avoid the shock caused by the theatricality of the show.

The truth is that at that point I was somewhat apprehensive, the fireworks were spectacular but we live in Mexico and each thought he heard a noise "chest on the ground." Little by little I relaxed by the coquetry of Paul Stanley, his leggings with studs and wonderful sense of humor. Halfway through the concert began to sing "Guantanamera" and "Cucurrucucú" the audience laughed with him and I enjoyed all horrors and this still did not touch anything I was remotely familiar.

was a matter of time before the legendary Gene interpreted I Love it Loud mouth full of blood rising in a harness at the top of the stage where the lights were located. It was great, I just spit something I feared because it was located just below it, but no, despite being around a devil never lost respect.

irony was that some songs after Eric got out of his altar to sing Beth one of the biggest hits of KISS. "It's a singing cat love. Tenderness. "Told the gay couple who were on my side, these laughed and shared the joke with a group of metalheads in front of us.

After that came the kicker: Lick it Up and Shout it Aloud followed by I Was Made For Lovin 'You . It was in this last song where the lead singer of the hearing was moved to a platform located in the very center of the VFG. How did it without safety harness and platform worthy of the most accomplished teibolera remains a mystery to me.

The group closed with Rock And Roll All Nite , children, old, strawberries, metal and journalists jumped as if no tomorrow under a barrage of endless white slips powered by large engines. In my life have I seen a rock concert so bizarre and funny. KISS definitely changed my perception. Do not hesitate, if I'll be there again KISS: first row, no matter what.
